Established in 1842 by William Cadenhead,
Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent
bottler.
Cadenhead's remained in the same family until in 1977 the company and its stock waspurchased by J & A Mitchell and Co, the proprietors of the famous
Springbank and
Glengyle distilleries of Campbeltown. The Cadenhead range has a long standing reputation amongst fans of single cask bottlings. The range comprises two separate bottlings, one at cask strength and the other at 46% from either single casks or very small batches (between 2-3). A sign of their very early origins in the Scotch whisky trade is evident by their usage of the
Glenlivet suffix for certain Speyside whiskies not coming from the Glenlivet distillery, instead refering to an geographical term, a practice seldom used these days
