Just north of Inverness in a village called Edderton is the famous Balblair [bal-blair] distillery. Balblair is a soft and incredibly smooth malt, with lots of fresh summer fruit flavours and a well-balanced sweetness. The light, gentle nature of the whisky made at Balblair makes for an ideal introductory dram, but it is also very well regarded amongst more serious whisky drinkers for its complex style, particularly their older expressions. Balblair has a strong shelf presence, particularly when there are several of them side-by-side.
