We are delighted to announce that we have added Penny Blue, a Single Estate, Mauritian Rum to our portfolio.
Distilled at the Medine distillery, which has been in operation since 1826, it is produced in small batches and is limited release world-wide. Doug McIvor from Berry Bros. & Rudd, the world’s oldest wine and spirit merchant, and Jean Francois Koenig, Master Distiller from Medine Distillery, have hand selected 14 rum-filled cognac, whisky and bourbon casks that are at the peak of the maturity, the oldest of which is 10 years old.
Printed in Mauritius in 1847, the Penny Blue stamp immediately became a collectors’ item because of its inscription. A mistake by the engraver resulted in it reading “Post Office” rather than the usual “Post Paid”. From the thousand stamps printed at the time, only twelve are believed to be in existence today.
